The sky glows a pale grey, tinged with deep blue tones. A few white cumulus clouds populate the
vast expanse of sky, grey on the undersides and bright white where they face the radiant light of
the sun. The light is shining in the silver-blue spectrum, but it is not warm.
A cold, harsh wind stirs the branches and tops of the plants. This is the wrong moment to wake
up, I tell myself, and I’m about to close my eyes again when I see a friendly face above me,
smiling at me. This face, a manifestation of the landscape’s spirit, reassures me and encourages
me to embrace the day. More to read

Journey to the Unknown

Krieg began his artistic life in painting and drawing, even though he has always been interested in photography. He states that nowadays, his camera is like a paintbrush or a pencil in his art-making. The artist chooses different cameras depending on the images he wants to create, just as a painter would use different brushes for different finishes. He uses small digital cameras to minimise the distance and avoid the intrusion between him and his subjects. Then he uploads the photos to his computer and walks through the journey again to select and refine the images. Sometimes, they are moody, irritated, joyful, contented or nostalgic, but they all have unfinished stories that linger in the viewer’s eyes. The photos are not computer-manipulated, which makes them much closer to the actual episodes of the journeys. His images‘ painterly quality and colour are then printed on aluminium plates or plastic film to give another dimension to the presentation. The artist says that printing on film or metal plates accentuates the quality of light in the photos as if the audience were present with the artist when the images were being taken. Krieg invites the audience into his unfinished journey, where it is both the observer and the observed.
