Sketches/Drawings
Drawing was my first passion and my first profession. I studied book illustration at the University of Düsseldorf before pursuing fine arts in Strasbourg. In my view, the ability to express oneself through sketches forms the foundation of every accomplished artist and often sparks significant artwork, developed through a series of conceptual sketches.
For a decade, I lectured on architectural drawing at an international heritage UNESCO institution in Venice, teaching students from around the world. Nowadays, as an artist who creates works primarily through photography, I still value those „out of world“ moments when I have the rare, peaceful opportunity to sit somewhere on the edge of a street and immerse myself in the fascinating cosmos of lines and colours. During these moments, I practise my ongoing, ambient observation and train my right hand to translate, through fine motor coordination, what my eyes perceive.
A sketchbook/drawings are deeply personal and intimate—much like writing love letters that are never intended to be sent. Nevertheless, I hope you will appreciate some of my sketchbook pages presented here—not as finished artworks, but as practical exercises by an artist who has not forgotten his roots.
