Rheinsymphonie – Des wilden Mannes Zähmung / The Taming of the Wild Man
A play and video performance by Tilmann Krieg
The cross-border production was specifically created to celebrate the opening of their permanent theater house located directly at the German-French border at the European Forum on the Rhine in Neuried
Here is the story of a myth still very much alive: the Rhine, both a symbolic patriarch, the stage of many tumults in History, and the source of mystical legends. Here are its surges, its clamours, its crashes, illustrated by torrents of images, words and movements.
Here is the splendour of the Rhine, from the Romans to the present day, through scenic, photographic and video tableaux in which the fantastic and the forces of nature mingle. Here are water spirits, warriors, birds, a ship of fools, but also Goethe and Marie Antoinette, whirling on its waters or in its skies. Here is an old savage, as beautiful as he is powerful, whom
humans have tamed for centuries, thinking they had dominated and subdued him, without ever truly realising his real nature.
This musical and multimedia show, performed by an ensemble of nine musicians and actors, is the work of the international artist Tilmann Krieg. He presents here his second piece with BAAL, after “Ein Bruder namens Martin”. Directed and staged by Diana Zöller and Edzard Schoppmann, set to music and arranged by composer Matthieu Singuerlet, sounds, images and songs intertwine, clash and embrace to celebrate the wild river that both divides and unites our two countries.
With Benjamin Wendel, Karlheinz Schmitt, Yaroslava Gorobey, Hendrick Pape, Henrietta Teipel, Maxime Pacaud, Florence Herrmann.
